Overview & Procedure

What the treatment is and how it's performed

What it is

Once the wound has healed enough, the stitches need to come out. They are removed quickly, and the scar is checked at the same time.

The removal is usually done in one short appointment. Sometimes the stitches come out in two rounds, or the wound needs a little more time. The nurse or doctor decides this.

  1. The wound is checked.
  2. The stitches are cut and gently pulled out.
  3. The wound gets tape or a plaster if needed.

It usually takes only a few minutes.
