Overview & Procedure

What the treatment is and how it's performed

What it is

Waxing removes the hairs from the root, so the skin stays smooth for three to five weeks. Waxing suits most body areas, from the brows and upper lip to the legs, bikini line and Brazilian wax. Facial waxing ends with a short skincare treatment.

  • If you wax every four to six weeks, the hairs are at the right length and the result is most even.
  • Avoid shaving between treatments if you can, so the rhythm holds.

  1. The practitioner cleanses the skin.
  2. The wax is applied in the direction of hair growth.
  3. The wax is pulled off quickly against the direction of growth.
  4. The skin is soothed with a caring oil or cream.

  • The hair should be 0.5–1 cm long, about two to three weeks after your last shave.
  • Exfoliate gently a couple of days before, but not on the day.
  • Avoid tanning, and do not use cream or oil on the area on the day.

Small areas take a few minutes, full legs about 45 minutes.

Experience & Recovery

Pain level, downtime and healing

It feels like a short sting that passes quickly. It often gets easier after a few times, because the hairs become thinner.

  • Common: redness and small bumps around the follicles, which settle within hours.
  • Uncommon: ingrown hairs, especially in the bikini line.
  • Rare: small sores if the skin lifts with the wax.

  • Wear loose clothing for the first 24 hours.
  • From day two or three, exfoliate gently two to three times a week. This prevents ingrown hairs.
  • Keep the skin soft with an unscented moisturiser.

No downtime. Avoid hot baths, saunas, exercise and tanning for the first 24 hours.

Expectations & Safety

Who it's for and safety information

  • If you use retinoids on your skin, or have taken tablets for acne in the last six months, tell the practitioner. The skin can then lift with the wax.
  • The skin can be more sensitive during your period. Many people therefore choose another week.
  • If you are going to have laser hair removal, do not wax for the last four weeks before the laser treatment.

  • Most people who want smooth skin for several weeks.
  • Most body areas and the face.

  • Sunburnt, damaged or irritated skin.
  • Eczema, wounds or raised moles in the area.

Contact the clinic if you get blisters, sores, strong irritation or signs of infection, such as pus or increasing redness and warmth.

The skin is smooth straight away and stays so for three to five weeks, depending on the area and hair growth. Regular waxing often makes regrowth thinner and sparser over time.
